Speaker Series Event

Through the DyeversityInUs Speaker Event, your high school or middle school students will be able to gain insight on the harms of stereotypes, gain support from the professionals who are role-models, embrace diversity, and learn how a more diverse future in underrepresented careers will benefit everyone. DyeversityInUs creates lesson plans for organization-related events to educate the community on the harms of stereotypes. Stereotypes and discrimination are affecting schools in America everyday, and thus preventing the next-generation of youth to build their own futures. The dreams of students are being hindered by stereotypes and discrimination in communities. The roots of hate are ignorance and a lack of empathy for others. There is a need to educate the next generation about stereotypes, so youth can look beyond these stereotypes and empower their futures. Professionals from the addressed underrepresented career will be invited to speak about their experience in the workforce. Interested in bringing a speaker event to your school?

Students can apply to become Chapter Leaders here, teachers can sign up to bring a speaker event into their classroom and become a Diversity Power Teacher here, and administrators/adults/allies can sign our Day4Diversity Petition here!

Speaker Event Content Outline

Organization introduction - founder and co-founder. (5 minutes)
Stereotypes and microaggressions. (5 minutes)
Speaker Introduction - Name, Organization, Objective(s) (5 minutes)
Speaker’s presentation - What they do, significance, related positions. Speaker anecdotes on their personal experience. (20 minutes)
Activity (20 min) (optional)
Conclusion - Summarize and offer open session Q&A (10 minutes)

AAPI in Government and Law:

This is the DyeversityInUs' Speaker Series Event that empowers students through the resources and stories from successful speakers from AAPI underrepresented careers. A portion of this event will be on DyeversityInUs’ lesson plan about common AAPI stereotypes and AAPI history. According to the Reflective Democracy Campaign, despite AAPI accounting for 6.1% of the population, AAPI elected officials are 0.9% of US elected leaders. The government serves the people, and therefore the diverse background of people should have a diverse government to represent them and their needs. The government represents the voice of the people, and the government has the power to create change.

African Americans in STEM:

This is the DyeversityInUs' Speaker Series Event that empowers students through the resources and stories from successful speakers from African Americans' underrepresented careers. A portion of this event will be on DyeversityInUs’ lesson plan about common African Americans stereotypes. The government serves the people, and therefore the diverse background of people should have a diverse government to represent them and their needs. STEM careers shape the way our society functions from a technology standpoint.

Latinx in STEM:

This is the DyeversityInUs' Speaker Series Event that empowers students through the resources and stories from successful speakers from Latinx' underrepresented careers. A portion of this event will be on DyeversityInUs’ lesson plan about common Latinx stereotypes. The government serves the people, and therefore the diverse background of people should have a diverse government to represent them and their needs. STEM careers shape the way our society functions from a technology standpoint.

Native Americans in Government:
